Rhys Morgan – Head Coach

Rhys is an LTA Accredited + Coach with an LTA  Level 4 Senior Club Coach qualification. Rhys also has recently graduated from Cardiff Metropolitan University with a Masters degree in Sports Coaching. Rhys has over 10 years of experience coaching tennis, working with players of all standards from complete beginners right up to some of the top ranked Junior players in Wales. In 2014, Rhys won the Tennis Wales Development Coach of the Year award, having been shortlisted to the final three in 2012 and 2013. Rhys is a firm believer of creating an environment that allows players to have lots of fun playing tennis whilst learning. Outside of tennis, Rhys enjoys a range of other sports including golf, snooker, pool and skiing.

Emlyn Williams – Lead Coach


Emlyn is a Level 3 LTA Accreditation + Coach with 6 years coaching experience and has been playing from a young age. Emlyn is currently in Cardiff Met University studying Sports Coaching and will graduate Summer 2019 if it all goes to plan. Emlyn has achieved his Level 2 Fitness Instructor qualification and recently attended a Strength and Conditioning Foundation Workshop under the UKSCA framework with a plan of further developing these interests in 2019. Emlyn is a keen golfer and is currently learning Welsh with a few of the other coaches from the club.

Billy Barclay – Lead Coach


Billy is an LTA Level 2 Qualified Coach with over 10 years of coaching experience. He started coaching football at the age of 14 and this later developed in to coaching tennis. Billy represents the club in various teams and also captains some of the Mini/Junior teams. During the Summer, Billy is the Head Councillor at Camp Wingate Kirkland Summer Camp in America and has been for 10 years. During his free time, Billy enjoys playing golf – aiming to decrease his handicap.

Emma McClory – Lead Coach


Emma is an LTA Level 2 Qualified Coach with 6 years of coaching experience. Emma has been playing tennis for over 7 years having been inspired to start playing after attending a few Cardio Tennis sessions. Emma is the captain of our Ladies team and is continually improving her standard of play. Emma also does lots of work behind the scenes at the club supporting the Head Coach with administrative tasks, producing promotional material and lots more. Outside of tennis, Emma is a qualified Primary School teacher, which explains the excellent rapport she is able to develop with the children.

Elliot Jennings – Lead Coach

Elliot is a Level 2 qualified coach and has been coaching tennis for 11 years from Mini Red through to assisting with the top national juniors in Cardiff. Elliot has also travelled globally and became head coach of Te Atatu Tennis Club in Auckland, New Zealand. Elliot grew up in Oxfordshire and as a Junior reached number 6 in the County at Under 16 and Under 18 age groups. Elliot also won the Men’s Doubles Premier league in Oxfordshire and became Club Singles champion at Witney Lawn Tennis Club in 2015. Elliot is also the current Mackintosh Men’s Singles and Mixed Doubles Champion. Outside of tennis Elliot has been playing the guitar for 20 years, went on a badminton tour to Sri Lanka in 2011 and completed race analysis for a New Zealand athlete and Rio Olympic Gold Medalist in Kayaking.

Skene Matthews – Lead Coach


Skene is a Level 2 qualified coach with over 9 years coaching experience. Skene started playing tennis aged 12 in Torquay where he later started coaching before moving to Cardiff and graduating from Cardiff Metropolitan University with a first class BSc (Hons) and MSc in Sport and Exercise Science. Skene competes for Mackintosh Men’s 1st team and has previously been voted Most Valuable Player. Outside of tennis, Skene has been successful in football and was lucky enough to compete at a number of Premier League stadiums. Skene enjoys travelling and the outdoors having visited over 25 countries.

Ben Barker – Lead Coach

Ben is a Level 2 qualified coach, having taught a variety of ages and abilities at a number of clubs across Cardiff. Ben has played tennis on and off since he was age 11, having been introduced to it through his parents. Ben’s first club was in Crowthorne, Berkshire, where he shared a coach with the former player – and now member of Andy Murray’s team – Jamie Delgado. It’s fair to say their careers have followed slightly different trends since! Ben been coaching at the Mack since 2015, and the club has history in his family, with his grandad, uncle, and mother all playing here in years gone by.  Outside of tennis, Ben’s passions are gardening, music, and books. Ben supports Reading FC for his troubles and enjoys most sports, but – to the horror of the other guys – not golf.

Tennis Leaders

We currently have a team of 15 Tennis Leaders who help out with various sessions and competitions at the club. Our Tennis Leaders are older juniors at the club, aiming to gain experience and develop leadership skills such as organisation, planning, communication and teamwork through the medium of tennis.
